Special Issue on Advanced Treatment Technology for Industrial Wastewaters is calling for Papers

Background, Objectives and Scope
At the start of the 21st century, there has been a geospatial shift in industrialization. Many countries are trying to industrialize as fast as they can to join the league of industrialized countries. In their haste, they are taking the same path of ignoring environmental consequences, as the industrialized nations did during the industrial revolution. Although traditional water treatment technologies have advanced over the past few decades, they still fall short in addressing some of the more complex pollutants found in industrial wastewater, like persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals. These compounds persist in the environment, bioaccumulate through food chains, and have the potential to cause significant ecological and health problems.

The complexity and difficulty of the challenges necessitates engaging a body of researchers to try to address them. However, it is regrettable that many excellent techniques have not been combined to achieve synergistic benefits, such as oxidation and biological treatment. For this special issue, we invite papers that examine new advanced technology and engineering approaches to treat industrial wastewater, especially for newly industrialized countries. We do not want papers focusing on traditional techniques that have already been widely applied, but would like papers that create new insights based on technical innovation. It should be noted that we focus on technology implementation and long-term testing rather than the discovery phase or studies in a beaker. All the papers should discuss technologies that are ready to be applied at scale. In-depth comprehensive overview papers which present big-picture ideas, issues, and challenges could be considered as features.

The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:
●      Technologies for removal trace amounts of persistent organic pollutants in biologically treated secondary effluent
●      New technologies (i.e., electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, nanotechnology, biological catalysis, bimetallic catalysis) that are beyond the proof of concept stage testing and implementation of industrial wastewater
●      Renewable energy sources from industrial wastewater
●      CFD design of reactors
