Abstract A new method based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is presented to numerically analyze the transmission and reflection characteristic of composite materials with negative effective permittivity. The numerical results are compared with the results of the existing theoretical model and the experimental data. The feasibility of analyzing the composite materials using the FDTD method is validated. It is useful for the design and application of the composite materials.
